Entering the flat to a warm welcome from Marisa, I knew that I would be happy to make this a base. Thank you, Marisa! I had no idea what to expect but all our 'wants' were there - ranging from a Map of Lisbon, a kitchen with the right amount of things including some basic staples, comfortable bed, hot showers, etc. We went to spend a few days - we had each made a checklist of an ideal base & places each one was interested in visiting. We had also listed what kind of a place we wanted - a small apartment situated in a central place, with basic facilities to cook, situated close to public transport and access to shops. We found this little gem. A central place with easy access to transport, walks through sections of the city, cafes, local shops (I am a vegetarian who loves exploring food possibilities so being able to cook is important and access to varied shops is important part of learning about people and places). The flat provided all the facilities that made our stay very comfortable, all the resources we needed to cook and assemble food for picnics. Eating out can be fun but having access to a small but thoughtfully kitted out kitchen meant that we could cook simple food and make salads. The location enabled us to break the day up as we could come back after a morning outing to rest before setting off again. The only drawback (for those who are intolerant to noise at night) being cleaning of streets, collection of rubbish, small groups of happy people walking back late at night, etc. I found these acceptable as it is the middle of a city and one can always buy ear-plugs as this place ticked all my boxes. |
